ETHEREAL — The Zine
ETHEREAL is a collaborative installation centralized around the theme of Black beauty, particularly that of hair. Often considered unprofessional or undesirable, Black hair truly exudes an aspect of nature, togetherness and a palimpsest of our ancestors before us. While Black hair has become quite a contentious matter, ETHEREAL was designed to show the entanglement of Black culture, beauty and community through a series of themed hair scenes. Flora Royalty, Braided Bond and Evening Noir highlight our three varying hair intentions.
The installation was presented at Kuppajo in downtown Sudbury from August to October 2020. This zine was created by the artists as an extension of the installation.
A Black artist collective joint: Isak Vaillancourt, Ra’anaa Brown, Sonia Ekiyor-Katimi, Richard Grant.
The zine is available for free in many establishments around Sudbury and is sold here at-cost.
